May Babcock

May Babcock is an American visual artist who uses handmade paper, printmaking and book-art techniques in her work.

In 2010, she made "Gridded Landscape" using handmade paper, pulp painting, string and woodcut.

She also made "Folded Landscape" in 2010, this time using handmade paper and Intaglio wiped woodcut.

I think both of these pieces are really interesting because of all the different textures she has achieved with the various materials. I particularly like the effect created by the string in the first piece. I might try a similar idea for my work.

Babcock has also made pieces of book-art such as "Seekonk River Mud Constructions" which she made for the exhibition "{this is ourselves} Under Pressure"  in San Francisco, October 2014.

I think this piece is an interesting response to the title of the exhibition and it actually makes the piece more meaningful.
